Outreach tonite & tomorrow nite
Their last 2 outdoor performances at Orchard Road has been quite well received. Praise the Lord!
Lil has been involved in A Kepala's performances helping with the sound, mixing the vocals etc. Prior to the gigs, she's helped with the blending of the vocals during their rehearsals. It's been a good chance for her to stay connected with the overall ministry, and actually put her gifts and talents to good use! She's been enjoying it a lot.. but it's been also tiring. =)

Back to work... Yeah!
frankly, the past 2 weeks have felt like the longest week in my year... =(
But thru it, I did witness God working in my heart, correcting some wrong attitudes & thinking. So i'm still glad for it.
The last 2 days of my in-camp were good as I got to connect with a few of my platoon mates, beyond the superficial level. I'm thankful for that.
I've invited a few of them to Christmas Service this sunday, praying that they would turn up! =)

My Scout Team
Finally on Friday we went outfield. Not that I'm super excited abt that either.. but at least it was a change in scenery, instead of just being 'stuck' in camp.
I'm still finding it hard to enter any meaningful conversations with these guys (many of whom I'm meeting for the 1st time this in-camp)
I'm planning to invite some of them for Christmas service at my church. Do pray that they will be open & receptive to it.
Thank you for several of you who wrote with words of encouragement after our last TGA update.
Your words and prayers meant a lot to us. =)

"Love, A Kepala"
So it's with this clever word play, that our newest band came up with their name- Love, A Kepala.. meaning Love, Ahead. This acapella outfit will have four performances this Christmas, heralding the real meaning of of this season, through their unique song & skit routine. I heard they will have a 'giant' turkey in one of their songs.
You can catch them on Orchard road this Christmas at one of the Celebrate Christmas in Singapore
stages. I believe their first act is scheduled for December 18th.

Local 'missions' trip, Dec 5th-17th
No support-raising needed for this trip... in fact, the govt. is paying for it all. =)
Yep... I'll be in-camp for my NS (Army) training for 2 weeks.
And this time, I'm reminded like last time, it's another opportunity for me to shine his light.
There would be, I'm sure, several PDA encounters... and I'm trusting God for it!
(You can read my the story abt my the great adventures in my previous in-camp - http://the_great_adventure.blogspot.com/2005/01/great-adventures-in-camp_17.html)
Do pray for Lil and kids tho'... esp. as she manages with the 2 younger ones. Josh goes to Kinder 1, but Emily & Zach are home with Lil.

Passionate & Committed Leaders & Followers
Sharon, a STINTer was put in charge of leading this project, and boy she led it with a passion. It was such a joy to see her grow as a leader, in spite of her feelings of inadequacies at times. In the initial stages of the project when I met to track with her, I was so impressed by her quick-thinking and organized leading. Well, Sharon, you may not know it, but you've taken FR's concert planning and execution to a whole new level! Kudos to you! Thank you also for leading humbly, and always teachable... This is a true mark of servant leader!
The rest of team were no less special. I saw in each person a very strong commitment to Christ, and to His service. Many of them made many personal sacrifices just to make this happen. VOiDers, your commitment had blessed me greatly! Thank you for the privilege to serve with you! =)

The fruit of many pple's labour...
VOiD brought their assembly program about self-acceptance to 5 schools & 1 counselling centre, and performed to over 3000 students. They ended their season with an evangelisitc follow-up concert of which 30 of those students showed up. That night, we saw 7 who prayed to receive Christ, and 6 more who wanted to know more about a relationship with Christ! Praise the Lord!
God had intended for these results, and much more! He had special (individualised) curriculums for every one involved in VOiD... especially about learning that we are fully accepted by Him, no matter what.
What a loving God we serve! Who gently draws us out to surrender more of ourselves to Him, as we learn more about His trustworthy character. =)

Ern weds Jaq
It was Jacq's wedding! Yeah!
Jacq is an ex-colleague of mine (we were in the same GCTC new staff training batch!) She's also a former solo artiste with ForeRunner.
I was also the official wedding photographer... it was a long tiring day, but nevertheless fun. Cos' I was getting used to my new digital camera (Powershot S2 IS - which I esp got in time for this!) And continued to use my semi-pro SLR (Canon EOS Elan IIE) for some film shots!

God's timely provisions...
Just 2 days ago, caught up with a friend whom I've not seen for a long while. As I was leaving she gave me a card, and in it a check! Wow... how did she know? Truth is, she probably didn't know that her gift was like God's timely provision for a need.
Josh's surgery has set us back more than $5k. And altho' some of it will be covered by our company insurance, and some medisave, there's still a fair bit of cash portion. God kept reminding me from the beginning not to worry.... not to be anxious about how I'm going to pay for it.
And yesterday, Josh went for his review at the clinic. Not only did the doctor say he's healing well, he also indicated he do his best to help us with the bill. He didn't have to do it (to help us out financially) but he chose to. And once again, we're blessed! =)
Thank you, Lord! for your ever so timely provisions for ALL our needs.

Rich weekend
It started on Thursday with my 3-weekly mentoring time with my Pastor, where I was challenged to have proper 'thinking frameworks or paradigms' in my leadership. Then on Friday, we had an engaging NLT (National Leadership Team) meeting where I found myself processing through what's our main call as a ministry... Then that afternoon, I took our STINTers to Kent Ridge Park, and had a meaningful time catching up, and hearing them share of God's grace in each of their lives. =) Saturday, I went to our church's Leadership Conference at the invitation of Pastor Fab; it was particularly exciting for me to track with the vision of the church, and observe how the Covenant Leadership is putting 'handles' and 'feet' to the principles they are learning as a team. Lots of things that set me thinking about the way I lead too... Finally on Sunday, God's word was preached and once again spoke to my heart, recognizing that I've sooo much to learn and grow. Thank you Lord for being patient with me!
It's an exciting life! And I'm thankful to be living it for you Lord! =)

Broken...
I was completely heart-broken. This was a hand drum that I finally decided to get while I was in Bali for vacation. I had deliberated it over 2 days, prayed and discussed it over and over again with Lil. I really loved the sound so much, and it was really like love at first 'sound'. And I was really really looking forward to use when I perform with 7Days. Now alas, it's gone... And it hasn't even gone on the road. Aaarrgh!
Frankly, I'm struggling to accept this loss....

Root of Bitterness
The Root of Bitterness
See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up
to cause trouble and defile many - Hebrews 12:15
The enemy of our souls has a very specific strategy to destroy relationships. Whether these relationships are in business, marriage, or friendships, the strategy is the same. A conflict arises, judgments are made, and feelings are hurt. What happens next is the defining point of whether the enemy gains a foothold, or the grace of God covers the wrong.
When a root of bitterness is allowed to be planted and grown, it not only affects that person, but it also affects all others who are involved. It is like a cancer.
Breaking satan's foothold requires at least one person to press into God's grace. It cannot happen when either party "feels" like it, for none of us will ever feel like forgiving. None of us feel like talking when we have been hurt. Our natural response is to withdraw or lash out at the offending party. It is only obedience that allows God's grace to cover the wrongs incurred. This grace prevents the parties from becoming victims who will seek compensation for their pain.
The next time you are hurt by someone, realize the gravity of the crossroads where you find yourself. Choose grace instead of bitterness. Then you will be free to move past the hurt, and a root of bitterness will not be given opportunity to grow.

Bounce Back Soon!
Josh is fine! =)
Only one grommet (ear tube) was inserted into the left ear. He only did a small cut in the eardrum of the right ear. Doc also said his adenoid (tissue in his nasal passage) was so large, he must be breathing hard each night during sleep, which naturally tires him out in the night.
Josh is in good spirits. except when he has to do ear drip and nose drips! Aiyoh... it's so unbearable... for US! ha ha... =)
Anyway, he was very calm going into the operating room; even the surgeon, anaesthetist and nurses all commented that he was very brave!
Thanks so much for many who sms-ed, emailed to show concern. We really appreciate your prayers. =)

Surgery tomorrow...
I've was quite concerned initially about this whole surgery thing, but Lil kept encouraging me not to be anxious (I sometimes worry too much!) It helped a little after I read up more about it online. The whole procedure will only take about 30mins. We'll then wait for the GA to wear off, and he'll be discharged.
Josh is feeling quite ok abt the whole thing. He knows he will 'fall' asleep and the doctor will insert a little tube in his ears etc. He's all quite happy about it. Not much worries... for now at least. =) Thanks to many of u who asked abt him...
p.s. if u want to read more abt the surgery/procedures u can surf to:

Ear surgery...

Joshua needs to go for surgery, for his ears.
Doctor says if he does not do it, it could lead to permanent hearing loss when older.
There are 2 procedures he's going thru.
one's called Adenoidectomy- which is the surgical removal of the adenoid glands from the area between the nasal airway and the back of the throat, this is related to the second procedure...
the other procedure is Myringotomy and grommet tube insertion.. which is to drain fluid that has built up behind a child’s eardrums. The purpose of the procedure is to restore the normal functioning of the ear
the surgery has been scheduled for this Friday Nov 4th.
he'll need to go under GA, should wake up afternoon, after the surgery.
please pray, as i'm personally quite anxious abt it. The whole idea of a surgery on a little kid just 'shakes' me.
pray for peace. for lil, josh and me & pray for skillful hands as the doc operates.
pray that this surgery will help Josh in the end, hearing improvement, no sinus problem, no asthmatic condition anymore etc.

Strategic Planning Process
It's been good... but very 'mind-gruelling' ha ha! Yesterday night, I literally wiped out when I hit the bed.. and it wasn't like I had just run a marathon or any thing like that.
This training has been helpful to help me crystallize some of the concepts that has been floating in my head. I hopeful that these new ideas will help greatly in ForeRunner's planning for the future.

VOiD in season
The band has performed at several government schools this past week, and have been quite well-received.
Sara & I have been doing the multi-media for the show, and it's been quite fun. This time round, we've up-ed the standard.. to include moving images with moving text, flashing transitions etc. It's been fun.. but time-consuming to get the effect we want.. hee! =) I also had to work on a 1min video clip that will start the full-evangelistic program next Sunday.

God is so gracious..
Today I met up with one of them, and at the end of our time, as we prayed for each other, I was very touched by something she prayed. She thanked the Lord for using me to mold her and help her grow... wow...
I feel so undeserving.. and so grateful that He chooses to use me even when I'm not always faithful to Him. "God, you are so gracious to me... too gracious..."

Good Foundations

training music ministers.2
Originally uploaded by muffyn.
Today, I taught the class on building proper Spiritual Foundations that will give us fruitfulness, freshness & faithfulness in the ministry.
As I ended, I encouraged the students that it was important to let a few trusted friends into their private lives. And to seek for accountability.
The prep time was helpful, as these were all good reminders for me. And I'll be teaching this session again with the new staff in their training in November.

It's freezing in Bangkok!
You see, the aircon in the room only had one setting- 'COLD'!! Which was actually fine with my roommate, Pat. In fact, he didn't even need the blanket (while I was all suited up and cuddled under the thick blanket) I've always joked that Pat was born with a completely different (or perhaps, broken) body thermostat. =)
Pat is sharing a devotion right now, from Psalm 1. I'll be teaching about 'Friendly Fire' after this.
Yesterday, we had the privilege to teach about 15 eager students on the 'Philosophy of Music Ministry' and the 'Attitudes of a Music Minister'.
And the training continues.... Thanks v.much for your prayers for us!

Empowering Music Ministers
We'll be there till Friday and will be teaching about 8 session, plus some devotions. It'll be a busy week.. but I'm looking forward to it.
This is part of the heartbeat of ForeRunner to equip, enhance and empower other music ministries to be effective in reaching the lost. It is in line with ForeRunner's mission to 'Serve Others in Reaching the Lost Through Music'
Do pray for our families to cope well with the kids and all! =)
I will write more as the week goes by.

Being a Usher....
It was a great joy to be used by God to usher them into God's presence, as we see them shouting out praises, lifting up the voices to give God glory. But I think it brought God the greatest joy... to see his own children delighting in Him. =)
My guitar didn't have sound the whole time.. until the last song. I struggled a little bit (having practiced so hard and then i don't even get to play... ) But God gently reminded me the attitude of my heart mattered more to him, then the music coming out from my guitar. So I just went on.. and enjoy the whole time.
I think it was a battery problem, altho' it was fine throughout the run-thru time. I replaced with another one, and managed to get it to work, and played the last song 'How Great is our God' with the band. =)

...the name of the Lord shall be paste!
It's really such a joy to see her talking so much now, learning many new words and songs, but some words still come out sounding funny! Like 'poon' when it's 'spoon', 'Zachawee' when it's 'Zachary', 'paste' when it's 'praised'!
Needless to say, Lil, josh & I had a good laugh... Growing up can be so fun! =)

Room to grow
That really echoed in my heart... cos' this is the place where my leadership team will meet weekly to chart direction for the ministry. May the Lord also use this room to refresh those who need it, when people meet to share heart to heart here. =)
A word of thanks... to Roland for strongly believing that leaders need 'thinktime' And for choosing to help ur leaders carve out that space for that. I thank God for you.
Opening 'ceremony'
After cutting the 'red tape' (ha ha.. v funny...) we all huddled in my room to have a little history lesson- done in a style of a quizshow! Pat did a swell job in the game, and had all of us in stitches. Then Joy led the team to pray for me as I lead this ministry.. and dedicated this room to the Lord!

Answered Prayer
Each person you see in this picture is truly an answer to many prayers for labourers.
We especially thank God for leading 5 new people to join us as interns with ForeRunner.
"Then He said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few, Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."" - Matthew 9:37,38
So much happening...
frankly, so much has been happening i don't know where to begin.
Growth seems to be the theme for the past months...
The kids are growing soooo fast. I'm just learning to enjoy every moment of it... treasuring every stage of their growth and development. Truth is, once we miss it, we'll never be able to re-capture it again.
The ministry is growing too... We've almost doubled in size! Now we have 11 staff in ForeRunner. 5 of which are STINTers (people who have chosen to give a year of their lives to serve God). As one of my co-workers described.. God must have something extraordinary in store for ForeRunner.
Personal growth, in faith and character has always been part of God's agenda for our lives. And this continues to be true for Lil and me. We're humbled by God's never-ending love for us, his grace and mercy in allowing us to makes mistakes in parenting, in leadership, and in life.
We do seek your prayers in these areas...
• for us fix our eyes on Jesus, to keep our focus on Him always.
• that we would not 'squeeze' him out of our lives, but instead to allow Him to work in our lives.
• for love and care as we reflect God to our kids, so that they may accurately reflect Christ to the world
• for godly wisdom as I (Simon) lead the ministry, for joy in serving the Lord
• for wisdom as I (Lillian) coordinate Praise & Worship for women's conference in Feb '06

Celebrating One Year...
We had a simple celebration for him with our family and friends.
My brother gave us a nice discount on the catering.. thanks bro! The food from his company, Purple Sage was excellent as usual. Laksa was fantastic.. yum!
I made a DVD with Zach's pictures.. but it too so long to finalize and burn.. that by then, most guest have left when I showed it. ha ha ha!
Mommee says 'He's growing up too fast.. I want him to stay baby.. =( ... "

...I am glad I wasn't there...
The truth is, sometimes God's timing puzzles us...
If we Lil called me to tell me the kids were really sick, I would have likely rushed home.. and then maybe even rush them to the doctor. Surely I won't wait 2 days!
However, God knew this situation would eventually end up glorifying himself, This presented Mary & Martha an opportunity to trust Him.. even if it meant waiting another 2 days for Him to do what He already intended to do.
"And for your sake, I am glad I wasn't there, because this will give you another opportunity to believe in me. Come, let's go see him." - John 11:15 (NLT)

Love is a choice...
just yesterday i was just thinking to myself.. i don't think I can handle this anymore... can't wait for them to grow up quickly.. sigh! And I felt bad thinking like that.
But how... they are driving me nuts! I know I'm complaining... can't help it.
Then tonight as I was reading an article in a magazine.. it hit me.. that love is a choice. and it applies to my love for my kids. Further, love is unconditional or should be unconditional. I've been wanting more than perfect kids.. who don't throw tantrums, don't whine, don't pee & poop on the floor, obey everything I say...etc. =(
"Lord, help me love the kids you've given me... unconditionally.. not only when they are obedient and nice, but even when they act up and are impossible. Help me understand and see that you love me just the same.. even when I act up, whine, and don't obey!"

another pic at Jimbaran Bay...
my parents have been so terribly kind to offer to take care of our 3 kids.. who are quite a handful.
we're sooo blessed!
Sunset dinner at Jimbaran
So it was like a 2nd 'honeymoon' for us!
Right after she flew in, we took a taxi to Jimbaran Bay to watch the sun set, and had a seafood dinner!

Back from Bali!
The past 2-3 months has been just fly here, fly there.. in 3 different countries. I just really don't know how those business people do it... esp. if you have family and all.
I'm really thankful that through the past few months God has watch over us all.. and my team-mates as well who have been on most of these trip with me.
Near the end of this month.. we'll ALL be back in Singapore.. and one complete team! Yeah!
I'm planning for prayer retreat day for us.. as we touch bases with each other, and connect with God to get a clear focus for this next half of the year.

A thousand ways to say 'sorry'...
We see it as a time to 'sharpen our axes', as people in the forefront sharing the gospel... so that we can defend our faith even more effectively. And cos this has direct/indirect bearing on reaching the lost, we wouldn't be far off to assume the devil won't be too pleased abt this and will try to wreak havoc so we can't go or can't benefit from it.
So please cover us in your prayers ya? Pray for:
1. Safety on the road and in-country (for Lil too as she flies in on Thurs to join Simon)
2. A keen mind and a hungry heart.
3. Good health
4. God's protection over both our families back here.

hit by the 'sleepies'
this strong physical feeling of wanting to lie down and shut your eyes..
and nothing seem to be able to distract you from wanting to just sleeep!
well, Josh & I were hit with a strong dose of that after our 20 hour flight from Singapore to Los Angeles. By afternoon (LA time) it was like in the middle of the night in our body clock. So he literally just knocked-out. Nothing could wake him, even though we moved him from the car seat, to the sofa, and back to car seat.
And last night, I woke up at 2:50am, and thankfully could fall asleep after 30mins. But woke up again at 6am. Hopefully, we're done with sleepies.. I'm quite fresh now, but Josh is taking a nap. So we'll see.

It's been 9 wonderful years!
I'm sad I can't be there... but i'm really lookin fwd to a holiday together in August! Yeah... that will be 1st time (in a long while) that we'll be spending extended time together w/o the kids. =)

Pray for Josh & I
• Pray for good bonding times with Josh. I'm really lookin fwd to exclusive father-son times. Josh has a voracious appetite in reading, and is curious about many things. I'm hoping to impart more life lessons to him even as he follows me around for ministry times.
• I'll be speaking/sharing at 2 church services at my former church in Orange County. Pray for fruitful times of encouragement and fellowship as I re-connect with some of the church people. I desire to be a blessing in whatever way the Lord may choose.
Thanks for praying! =)
Flying again...
this is a rather unique trip for several reasons.
1stly, Joshua is coming with me. Yep, I'm taking my first-born to Los Angeles.. and I'm planning on a trip to Disneyland with him. Yeah! double-yeah for him! =)
2ndly, this trip is specifically for me to connect and catch up face-to-face with a few of my faithful supporters, many of whom have been part of our ministry team since we began serving the Lord 7years ago.
The last time I saw some of them was in year 2001!
I'm thankful for God's provision of some cheap tickets, and I'm really looking forward to what God is going to do through our time there.

And she added that she was inspired by some of the stories I've been sharing.
Wow, that sure took me by surprise.. a pleasant surprise I might add. =)
So I thot to myself... I've gotta keep it up. I've had many many things I wanted to share and blog.. but have just not gotten myself to to write or type it out.
Anyway, you can look forward to more stories on the way.
Thanks friend.. for your simple but timely encouragement!

More Labourers...
God has so amazingly added to our numbers in our team in ForeRunner!
There are actually now 4 STINTers (1-year commitment interns) in training with us!
Each of them has a unique and story on how God called and led them to this decision to give one year of their life to serve Him.
I'll share (and feature) each of them at a later time.. so that you might be blessed and encouraged too! =)

the Drudgery of life...
It's especially difficult coming from a 'high' experience of a missions trip etc.
Time and again.. I guess I had to remind myself what I shared with the team at end of our trip... The very thing I 'preached' I'm now struggling to practice. =(
Yet again I'm reminded from Oswald Chambers (in 'My utmost for His highest') that... "We are not meant to be seen as God's perfect, bright-shing examples, but to be seen as the everyday essence of ordinary life exhibiting the miracle of His grace" He goes on to say, "Drudgery is the test of genuine character. The greatest hindrance in our spiritual life is that we will look for big things to do. Yet, "Jesus... took a towel and .... began to wash the disciples' feet... (John 13:3-5)"
"The routine of life is actually God's way of saving us between our times of great inspiration which comes from Him. Don't always expect God to give you His thrilling moments, but learn to live in those common times of drudgery of life by the power of God."

Just a few 'cattle' for me...
When I returned.. all the $1500 that I needed to raise for the trip had come in... and some more.
Our God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills has (once again!) so graciously given a few of those 'cattle' to meet my needs.
Thank you Jesus for your gracious provisions, and thank you Jesus especially for our friends and relatives who gave so generously toward your work. =)

Through wrong notes & lost voices...
Today (June 13th)we performed at the canteen of Prince of
Songkhla University, Phuket. It was a rather transient crowd,
cos' most people were having their lunch. (I personally was
thinkin' I seriously doubt if anyone would respond at all)
In spite of it all, God knew in His perfect plan that He wanted
to draw 8 students to Himself. another 17 were interested to
know more about Christ.
We're had about 6 concerts so far... and have recorded 480
decisions for Christ. There must be great rejoicing in heaven
right now! =)
The most amazing one must have been last Thursday's concert at
a high schoool in Nakhon Si Thammarat, where 324 kids responded
to the gospel out of the 600 plus who attended our full
evangelistic concert! What made it particularly amazing was
that musically & vocally it was one of our 'poorest'. Our lead
vocalist, Sharon, practically had no voice (we actually had
someone singing backstage to back her up!) Praise God! God
magnified Himself through us in spite of...
God is working in us and through us cos' you prayed. Thank you.
Life change is also happening in the the team as practically
everyone is experiencing God in a real & personal way. Several
of the people in our team have said that this has been a
life-changing 6 weeks in their lives. Praise God again!
I'm personally so thankful to be able to participate in whole
project & this trip. I've been so blessed to witness once again
my God who always exceeds our expectations. I feel my faith
growing to see his power so clearly demonstated in me and my
team.
Ephesians 3:20 comes to my mind... 'Now to Him who is able to
do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine to Him be the
glory....'
Indeed, all glory to Him, and Him alone!
thanks again for your partnership in this work,
Simon
p.s. I return on June 17th, please do continue to pray for Lil
& the kids who are very much part of this trip by their support
& prayers! =)

Hearing Test in a month
And for all your concern for Joshua's ear.
The last visit to the doctor was somewhat inconclusive..
Basically, he's not ready to do the surgery as yet. So he said to wait and observe (while continuing on the nasal spray medication) for another month. Then to do another hearing test next month.
And if things don't seem to improve then he may need to go ahead with the surgery. =(
You can pray that his ears will 'unclog' often, and that it doesn't get infected easily.
The Pruning Process
Each of them has been expressing how God has already been working in their lives, bringing about change etc.
And I personally have been experiencing Him too. Someone once said, "The branch that feels the pruning knife is the branch that is growing." So in this sense, I'm thankful... Though the process can be painful, and often uncomfortable.
His grace is sufficient for me; for His strength is made perfect in my weakness.

The Thais are here!
"God is sooo good!" That was the repeated phrase of tonight, as we gather for simple welcome party for them. Just a day before they flew over, a supporter called them over to her house.. and offered a 'small' gift to them. She said she felt God had led her to give, and she needed to obey. She handed over 150,000 Baht (abt S$6k) That literally covered about a third of what the team needed to raise to come here.
Over on our end, God provided a house.. yes, a house.. and very large one! for only $1000 for their whole time here! It's amazing. On top of that, many people gave generously both in kind and in cash to help the Thais settle down here. God is sooo good!

Pray for Josh's ears...
Thanksgiving: today, we went for another review.. and the doctor said to continue with the current medication (a nose spray to clear 'blockage'), and to continually get Josh to 'pop' his ears. And then go for another hearing test in a month. So no surgery for now.
Please pray the the ears will heal up well by themselves without having to do any surgery! Thanks!

It's His idea anyway!
"That they may see and recognize
And consider and gain insight as well,
That the hand of the LORD has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it."
God's miraculous works of 'opening rivers in bare heights, of making the wilderness a pool of water, the dry land fountains of water' (v.18). And of planting many varieties of fruitful plants in the desert (v.19) is for the very purpose of glorifying Himself!

treadmill
I was completely exhausted after the run.. but felt really relieved. I would have had to do RT (Re-Training- attending physical exercises twice a week) had I not clear this test.
I've gotta keep fit from now on.. if not I'll be struggling to pass again the next time. So from now on.. i'm gonna try to work in some exercise regimen to keep me fit and healthy. It'd take quite a bit of discipline.. but I guess it's better this way. =)

An atmosphere of life change...
Wow! it's getting exciting.. but also very busy.
I have been trying to get time to work on my teaching sessions, sort out logistics/equipment issues (we have 2 bands this year!) track with some of the students, raise funds etc, and at the same time make sure I'm lookin' ahead as a leader to the bigger picture of things.
It's been a really adventurous faith journey!
As we move along.. will you pray for us. That we will keep close to the Mission and Vision that God has specifically given to us for this project.
The Ultimate Road Trip 2005
Mission: Create an atmosphere of life change
Vision: That our students will have a life-changing encounter with God. As Spirit-filled Christians, they are equipped and actively seeking opportunities to reach others.

Difficult Journeys...
Fighting Myeloma
Dong as he is fondly known is like a big brother to me in so many ways. When I was only a teenager he saw my potential, believe in me, and investing his life in mine. And till this day he still treasures me just the same. I'm so thankful for him.
He's been diagnosed with Myeloma, an incurable condition. It's basically cancer of the blood.
It's not been an easy journey for him and his family.. to say the least, having to go through chemotherapy and all.
He has one son, also called Joshua, and also 5yrs. You can track his journey and pray for him at:

Prematurely Birth
Our CG friends, Barns and Doris has been going through a altogether different difficult journey. Their little girl, Paige, came into this world unexpectedly last week... Doris was only in the 23rd week of pregnancy. By all standards, she was earlier than premature.
Doctors did all they could to delay the birth... the baby had to come out.
From the last news we heard... they had to do a blood transfusion.. and the baby is still fighting for survival...

He drank from the BOTTLE!!
Lil and I prayed really really hard.. that Zach would get used to the bottle.. but the last few times, it just drove me nuts trying to feed him, cos' he simply refused...
And today, just before I put the teat in his mouth, I prayed again for a miracle! And immediately after the teat went into his mouth, he just latched on, and sucked and sucked! Within 5 mins... all 100ml or so was gone! Yippee! Praise the Lord!

I don't know how it came to be, but one fine day, she was counting from 1 and it went: " 1, 2, ... 6, 7, 18, 14!!"

How I started wearing glasses...
Little did i know.. that I would eventually ending up having my own pair ... sigh!
But then I discovered contact lenses.. and never looked back. Glasses would only be seen on me when I absolutely have no choice.
When I first heard (many years ago) that my myopia could actually be corrected (permanently) by laser surgery.. i was estatic.
But now that my Mom is actually sponsoring to go for it (Lasik surgery).. and I'm scheduled to have it actually done this afternoon... i'm kinda getting a little anxious. How funny.
So here am I asking for your prayers.. for the Surgeon to have steady hands.. for peace in the heart.. and finally for quick recovery, and minimal side effects.
Thank you...

128 parties in heaven!
We just received news that 128 students in Anglican High School made decisions for Christ.. after 7Days, our chinese band's presentation there yesterday afternoon! Praise the Lord! It was a hot, sweltering 35 degrees, and I was soaked through by the end of the show.. but it was worth it!
Wow... I'm humbled to be able to witness God's mighty stirring in this way.
What's especially special for some of us was that about 11 years ago.. here at the same stage, about 127 students prayed to received Christ after a performance by our all-volunteer band, 'Across' (of which i was part of).
I still remember us putting up one of our worst shows.. but somehow God had already prepared for these dear ones to make a response to Him.

The 'Trip' begins...
After some warm-up, get to know you time, Lil taught 2 classes on 'Writing your Personal Story'... allowing everyone to ready themselves to be Christ's ambassadors in Thailand this coming June!
Lil adds: "It was really enjoyable.. didn't realize how much I missed teaching. It was nice to have babysitters (our kids were in our upstairs office) so that I could really relax, and teach and hang out with the students..."

In Christ Alone
I place my trust
And find my glory
in the power of the cross
In every victory
Let it be said of me
My source of strength
My source of hope
Is Christ alone.
© words by Shawn Craig and Don Koch
Today I came across the lyrics of this song.. and sang it quietly in my heart to the Lord (cos' I was in a reading room..) And the Lord reminded me of some years back... when he used this song to encourage me; it was when I first took on leadership of our ministry.
I was afraid, and totally inadequate for this task. But God said to me, that I only need to place my trust in him.. and that He desires to demonstrate His strength through my weakness. I still remember the tears that rolled down my cheeks when I sang this song over and over again... tears of joy actually, that God is with me! all the way!
Thank you Jesus for reminding me today again of your love for me!

Mentoring & being mentored...
Over the course of the past 6 months God has blessed me mentor and friend in the person of Michael Anderson. He came with his family late July in 2004.. and has been working in a 'consultative' role in ForeRunner. He's not only help us sharpen our Mission, Vision & Values.. but has also spent a fair bit of time with me to help me grow as a leader.
I'm grateful to the Lord for His timely provision.. and for opportunities for me to learn and grow from someone who has years of ministry experience.
Also, over the past 1/2 year... I was able to spend time and invest life in 2 guys who are studying at NUS. Both Sam and Joel.. i first met through ForeRunner music missions project. I've grown to love them a lot... and have been carving out time to hang out and build into their lives. Each of them are leaders in their own right, and continually desires to grow and be meaningfully used by the Lord.
Again, I'm thankful for how the Lord has blessed me with these meaningful relationships.

Josh's McFun party!
It was fun, crazy time with games and all for the kids at Josh's first ever McFun party at MacDonald's. It was a really convenient no mess, no clean-up party.. esp. for the adults.

Not the 'hosptial' again...
It was Tuesday, Lil was so excited to be able to come into the office with me that afternoon... We had 'packed' both Emily and Zach nicely in the car, plus I had 2 other passengers. I started the car and began to drive off... it started to jerk..and jerk and jerk!! Aaaahh!!
Anyway, long story short.. it was finally towed to the car 'hospital'. Sigh!
And today.. 2 days later...I finally picked up the car. The ignition coil and module was broken. On top of that several other things were 'broken' and had to be fixed. Then the regular servicing was also due.. and the timing belt had to be replaced. Suffice to say.. it burned a BIG hole in my pocket.

The 'God-factor'
For some reason, I was feeling really phlegmatic about the whole preparation process.. I first looked at this session, which I was assigned to teach, and the notes didn't quite click with me.. and I ended up 'not 'wanting to work on it, so kept procastinating it.. though I actually had about a month to work on it. =(
Anyway, it went quite well.. thank God!
I learned along the way... and I'm thankful for it. God is good!

Try some 'buah keluak'... if u dare
This used to be the oh-so-happy-time when u get enriched with goodies & snacks and 'bombarded' with ang-pows (red-packets w $ inside).. it was a favourite time of year when I was growing up.
For some reason... it's fascination got lost on me as i grew older...
But this year has been a rather fun one. We went on a cruise (kindly sponsored by my parents) to Langkawi, Malaysia... had some good family times.. and then did a fair bit of visitations with relatives we haven't seen in ages.
Joshua & Emily was particularly happy.. munching away at tons & tons of candy and snacks and sweet drinks!
Meanwhile, I had the joy of enjoying some good ol' buah keluak...
For those not so familiar.. this is the unique Nonya dish, cooked with plenty of spices. It's some kind of seed, and you eat the insides.. it's mushy, looks like slushy mud.. but ooooh, it tastes so good. Oh course, it's acquired taste.

Reaching the Northen Corridor of Singapore...
There are about 400 churches in Singapore, but only 18 found in the Northern Corridor. The Woodlands region is targeted by the government to be on e of the 5 biggest regional centers in Singapore!
Lil and I feel excited that God has led us to this church for such a time as this.. and we're trusting God to give whole-heartedly to the building of this church.
In the next 90 days, the church needs to put down a deposit of 6.35million dollars. Would you pray for us as we trust God to claim this land for His name's sake!

Back from a fruitful trip...

Safe and sound.. back from Thailand...
It's been a good time for all. We served, we learned, we grew as
individuals and as a team.
It was especially good to have wives and kids on this trip.
During one of our sharing times on the last morning, our wives
expressed that it's been good for them to be part of this trip, to
support their husbands, and to also personally experience what goes on
in the exciting ministry of Asia Impact, our hosts.
Thanks for praying for us all =)

Are these (kids) all yours?
In my mind I was thinking, 'Of course, they are..' and i was briefly tempted to make some quick joke or something. But then I replied politely, 'Yes, they are ...' To which he replied. 'I have a little one... 8 months old'
Then it was my turn to ask a silly question, especially since it's posed to a Chinese, 'Is he your only child?' But of course, with the one-child policy in China.. could they have more?
As we parted, this man whom I've only just met said in mandarin... "I am so envious of you...'
In a simple encounter like that, suddenly things were put in perspective once again. How blessed Lil and I are to have Joshua, Emily & Zachary! Now all the hassles in taking care of them, dealing with tantrums and sickness, carrying strollers, baby bags & bottles and tons of kid stuff here and there suddenly don't matter that much any more.
"Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
Children born to a young man are like sharp arrows in a warrior’s hands.
How happy is the man whose quiver is full of them!"
Psalm 127:3-5a (NLT)

God works in amazing ways!
The past few days has good! Everyone including the familes are well-settled.. and we've re-connecting with some people we have not seen for a while. The past 2 sessions we led in songs in worship also went well. Thanks for praying...
Today, our 7Days team met up with the YRR team (the folks who hosting us in our last trip to that big country). We talked about stuff that could help us improve future partnerships.
The following story shared by one of them greatly encouraged me.... to know that God is still moving there:
"The girl that designed our 7Days concert poster and flyer... was actually a non-Christian student. After our concerts in her city, she had sleepless nites.. and felt she needed to talk to someone about Jesus. Believe it or not, she prayed to received Christ...! Now her nickname in-country is called '7Days'!! =) Though faced with various family persecutions but she's growing in her faith! Praise the Lord! God surely works in amazing ways!"

Going to Cha'am, Thailand...
Encouraging the workers...
7Days, ForeRunner's Chinese band has the unique opportunity to be used by God to lead 800 over people in Praise & Worship during the 6 days we're there. It is indeed a privilege for us to bless, encourage and refresh these faithful labourers in the harvest fields of East Asia.
Pray along with us... specifically that all at the conference would be reminded of the centrality of Jesus in our lives and mission, refreshed in the privilege of our incredible calling, and spurred on to continue to persevere in our mission.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Perspective...to life's tough questions

Our campus ministry recently printed an evangelistic booklet called
"After the sea calms"
It include reflections, pictures, real-life testimonies, and answers to
difficult questions.. and a simple presentation of the gospel.
It's great for Christians to give to their friends and colleagues, as a
conversation starter...
It's a beautiful full-color 12-pages booklet.
They are making available to other ministries and churches. cost is
$0.50 each.
Do take a look at the PDF version at www.sccc.org.sg
(ordering instructions are also on the website)

Great Adventures in camp...
I first went in for my in-camp training with a rather heavy heart... basically, feeling negative about the whole army thing-- this whole sudden thrust from a civilian sedentary life to a rigorous, regimented life in green!
But somehow, like always, I knew God had something in store for me.. to learn to be His child, and His witness.
What transpired then were days of seeing clearly how God worked in my heart, and through me.
I shared my life, and my faith with about 8-9 people.. all soldiers I met for the first time. Through several unique 'divine' appointments and opportunities that clearly presented itself, I encouraged one Christian brother (who was feeling rather down-hearted), engaged in a deep conversation about the Christian faith with one guy, and discussed about spiritual issues with several others.
I'm sharing this not to say that I'm a super-Christian... but to demonstrate that it's God who was working; and that He does it so wonderfully when one is relaxed and willing!
I guess I was simply experiencing what my Senior Pastor in my church has been emphasizing all this while.... to be a PDA Christian! (To walk in Personal Revival, trust God for Divine Appointments, and seek to practice Active Obedience)
Through it all... this has turned out to be one of the most enjoyable in-camp training I've ever been though! God is sooo good!
We all 'survived'!
And yes, we all survived.. my 1-week long training was quite interesting.. and filled with many 'divine' appointments. I hope to share more in the blog.
And Lil and kids did well too. Like me, she experienced God's grace and strength through it all!
God is good! thank all for praying!

a special prayer request...

I'll be headed (tomorrow early morning) for a 1-week In-Camp Military
Training. (10th-15th Jan)
I'm not sure how intense is the training.. but you can pray for safety,
protection, and opportunities to share my faith.
Lil will be with the 3 kids alone.. so do pray for patience, joy and
wisdom as she takes care of all of them.
Pray especially for rest in the spirit...
Thanks! =)
I don't want to die...
'Daddy, i don't want to die...'
It took me by surprise! Why would he suddenly say something like that?
So I asked...'Why did you say that...?'
He replied... 'B'cos I like Daddy, Mommy, Emily and Zachary...'
Wow.. how it warmed my heart. I was initially 'worried' .. not sure what's bothering him. Then it occurred to me.. that perhaps the recent scenes and countless stories of lives lost in the Tsunami disaster has made him to want to express how he loves us and does not want to lose us...
What followed was a meaningful conversation about God and heaven, and a simple assurance that we'll all be re-united in heaven even if one of us 'goes first'.
Joshua smiled...

Titles or Testimony
"When you were born, you alone were crying and everybody else was happy. The important question I want to ask is this: when you die are you alone going to be happy, leaving everybody else crying?"
"The answer depends on whether you live to gain titles or testimonies. When they lay you in the grave, are people going to stand reciting fancy titles you earned, or are they going to stand around giving testimonies of the good things you did for them. . .?"
"There's nothing wrong with titles. Titles are good things to have. But if it ever comes down to a choice between a title or a testimony-- go for the testimony."

Starting 2005 on our knees
It all started late last night when we kinda got into some disagreement... which led us to talk and talk for almost 2 hours.. which finally ended up on our knees praying... asking the Lord to renew our relationship with Him, with each other, and with our kids and families.
It was truly a blessed time!
Lil reflects: '... it's was good to start off the year committing ourselves as parents to the Lord, and committing our children to him; we desire that they would grow up knowing and loving Him. But our prayer is that we would first know Him, to accurately reflect Christ to them...'
